By conducting this research I have gained knew perspectives on this captivating medical drama, as well as learning the point of view from other TV critics.

Judge David Johnson’s review of the television show House M.D was a positive review on the show despite the fact he didn’t care for the television station that airs the show. He claims most of the excitement and energy comes from the acting skills of Hugh Laurie which play’s the role of House on the show. Judge Johnson Quotes “Laurie is the main reason the show has distinguished itself from the pack of other dramas.”

Mike Spadoni’s article was on the Genre of Medical Drama’s in television. In this article Mike says that American TV viewers fall in love with a new show pertaining to the medical drama genre every decade or so. Mike believes the popularity of the medical drama genre is accredited to the life and death reality and hospital sets in these shows. Mike Spadoni Quotes “You don’t have to know about medicine to enjoy

Jaymz Article was on the differences and similarities between the medical dramas (House MD) and (Greys Anatomy). In this review of the shows Jaymz talks about how the realistic situations mixed with great acting adds for an addicting series. In conclusion Jaymz believes the acting in more mysterious yet realistic situations by Hugh Laurie helps the show House MD surpass the popularity of the show Greys Anatomy Jaymz quotes “I've never really been into medical shows unless its a "CSI" or "Without a Trace" drama. But, my new obsession of the medical dramas on television today, started with an empty night and nothing on tv... Or so I thought.”
After reading all the articles and doing research I have concluded that most of the television show critics opinion’s doesn’t seem to differ much from my own. I believe that the Medical/Mystery drama mixed with the acting skills of Hugh Laurie is what makes the show as captivating as it is. So all in all House is a really great show and other people seem to think so to.

Profiling

The diverse actor Hugh Laurie, although born in Oxford, England, has become an award winning American icon. On House, Laurie plays the doctor “as cantankerous and antisocial.” He also uses an American accent, which illustrates his versatility. He is constantly changing roles, from his uptight sarcastic Gregory House, to comedic British television shows, to lending his voice to characters in animated series and movies. This makes Hugh a well known actor in England as well as America. Not only is he a versatile actor, but he is musically talented: he plays the piano, guitar, harmonica. He has also played these instruments on House (Hugh Laurie).
While recovering from infectious mononucleosis Hugh became involved in a comedy review group which led to his acting career. Hugh recorded the audition tape for the show House in a bathroom of a motel room. His American accent was so convincing that the producer was unaware that he was English. How ironic that Hugh plays the role of an American Medical Doctor on the show House and his dad Ran Laurie is an actual Medical Doctor in England.
Hugh learned to drive a motorcycle at the age of sixteen; his father gave him his first motorcycle as a gift. Motorcycle riding has become a passion for Hugh. Hugh also gets to enjoy riding a motorcycle on the television show House. He Quotes “I travel to work on my motorcycle, so it's jeans, boots and a brown Aero leather jacket that weighs as much as I do. If it were black, it would seem like I've got a [Marlon Brando] idea going on, which I don't.” On and off the show his choice of motorcycles seems to be the Triumph. This also reflects on his character on the show.
From my past Blog entry’s my focus on the show was the comical actor who play’s House so this is why I choose to profile on Hugh Laurie. As you can tell from my profile House (Hugh Laurie) is a very unique actor with various talents. I would have to say Hugh is a great actor and he plays a great role. I don’t think there could be any one better to act the role in House as he does.

Good Writing

This is a learning experience for me. I want to become a more creative, productive, and interesting writer. I also want to fix my flaws and learn from my mistakes. I hope by writing this blog I will increase my ability to become a better writer and have a better understanding of what good writing is and what I think it is.
My definition of good writing consists of keeping my audience’s attention with good details, interesting facts, and good ideas about my subject or point. Good writing also has solid organization, which includes good flow, isn’t jumpy, and allows readers to understand what’s being put out there for them to read. There also needs to be good spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
An example of good writing to me would be the book Twilight. Twilight is very fluent and interesting. It keeps my attention and is easy to understand. This is what I like. This is good writing to me. Some people may think otherwise, but for me Twilight has good details and interesting ideas that keeps your interest.
Here is an example of what I mean:
I vividly remembered the flat black color of his eyes the last time he’d glared at me — the color was striking against the background of his pale skin and his auburn hair. Today, his eyes were a completely different color: a strange ocher, darker than butterscotch, but with the same golden tone.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 2, p.46
By reading Twilight and going back and reading some of my own writing it shows me just how much my writing needs work. So I would definitely say my writing needs improvement. Writing has always been my weakest subject. It seems to be that I know what I want to write, but I never can get it out quite right, or the way I want it. It’s kind of like a writer’s block. I would have to say the flow of my writing needs more work and the editing and revising process of my writing needs enhancement also. So there is definitely room for growth in my writing.

Great Memories
One of my fondest childhood memory that sparked my interest in becoming a nurse and working in the medical field happened on a hot summer day. My older brother and I were playing at my aunt’s house in her back yard, when all of a sudden a dog came from no where growling and showing his teeth at us. We got so scared we started running and screaming and hollering for help. We had to cross a creek and hop over a small barb wire fence. While jumping the fence, my brother Jason caught his arm on the wire of the fence, ripping a huge gash out of his arm and slinging blood everywhere.
By this time a neighbor who had heard us screaming came and ran the dog off and called for help. My brother was screaming and crying in pain. I acted fast by having him take his shirt off and I wrapped it around the wound on his arm to stop the bleeding. My Aunt came out and helped us get back to the house and I helped clean his wound and dress it until we got to the hospital. Once we got to the hospital, I noticed that they were looking to see what was wrong with him first; then once they figured out what was wrong with him, they treated him. I was very interested in watching the nurses assist the doctors with repairing and suturing his wound. Before he left the nurse gave him a tetanus shot and a round of antibiotics.
Ever since that day, I’ve wanted to be a nurse.
When I watch House it takes me back to that childhood memory of when I started down the path of becoming a nurse. What reminds me most is when I watch the show and House and his crew analyze symptoms and test theories on patients. I know that is what they were doing at the hospital with my brother when we got there. In my childhood memory, my brother’s symptom was a laceration of the arm; the diagnosis was “open wound, no broken bone,” and the treatment was suture the wound, administer antibiotics to prevent infection and give a tetanus shot. When watching House, I connect to the process. Every time I watch House, I’m reminded of my memory and I’m inspired even more to become a nurse.
My childhood memory is my first inspiration to become a nurse, but watching House gives me the drive to become a nurse even more. This is a positive memory. This memory helped me set my career goal and will be a great achievement one day.

Love/Hate House

In my last blog I wrote about my favorite show House. As I was researching on what some of the critics say, I ran in to some good things and bad things about House. Although, there were a lot more good than bad things said.
Len Sousa from Slant Magazine says, “It's a rare ability for an actor to be able to deliver a character performance with such snarky sarcasm and still come across as enjoyable." She argues that even though House is sarcastic he is still enjoyable, and I agree because House is very sarcastic but it makes the show interesting. House is always right about the diagnosis and his sarcasm is comical.
Zack Handlen from The A.V. Club, however, claims that a "big problem with the current season is that the big dramatic arcs we’re currently dealing with—Cuddy’s baby problems, Foreman and 13’s medical mystery tour—have nothing to do with our main character. Sure, there’s that unresolved Cuddy-romance, and House makes some snarky comments on the sidelines about the Oreo hook up, but that's all secondary. These are plotlines that could’ve stepped out of any medical drama without any real change; much as I like Omar Epps and Lisa Edelstein, I watch House for House, and without him tied directly into the action, I’m losing interest, fast."
So Handlen thinks that without House directly tied to what is going on in the show it’s not as interesting, and that some of the characters make the show less entertaining. I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I agree that too much extra stuff not dealing with House and his patient situations will cause you to lose interest because it takes away from his character. On the other hand, I still insist that if there were not other character situations in the show it would be less interesting. For instance, the 13 and Foreman issue makes you laugh because House is constantly toying with them. House picks on their relationship and how they act toward each other while at work. Their stories, in this respect, play off of House's because he's playing with them.
Margie77099 from Viewpoints Blogger Reviews reveals “I have not really been interested in watching him much this season. House has become the filler until the show I really want to watch comes on. The continued drug use bothers me and the new characters are not believable. What a shame. House had such potential”. I disagree with this because the other characters help keep the drama going and it keeps it interesting. House's drug use symbolizes his emotional and physical pain and makes his character believable.
So these are some of the comments from critics, but they still don’t change my feelings for House. Even thought there were more positive reviews and there were some negative ones also. House is still my favorite tv show no matter what the critics think.

""The man with the Cane""

Have you ever seen the television show House? House is a really cool show. Actually it is one of my favorite shows to watch. It's about a very smart and interesting doctor. He has a dry, sarcastic comical sense of humor. House is one of a kind. Some people may even think he is heartless, but he is always right when it comes to saving peoples lives.
The actor who actually plays House is Hugh Laurie. Hugh Laurie's House is honest and blunt about things and he doesn't care what people think, not even his boss. He plays as an older guy who walks with a limp and uses a cane and he always has a serious look on his face. House's attitude is one of my favorite parts of the show. I respect him because he tells people the truth and what he thinks. House does not try to sugar coat it for people. Although some things he says are down right mean. Unlike (Patrick Dempsey) McDreamy on Grey’s Anatomy, House is cold and insensitive. McDreamy is a nice, friendly doctor who every one loves. Because House is so cold, everyone hates him—which makes watching the show tense and exiting. You can't help but wait to see what he does next or who he's going to piss off!
I think House acts like an ass so he won’t have feelings for people. It’s almost like House is scared to have feelings for people. I think he is the way he is because all of the heartache and problems in his life. House had an aneurism that clotted in his leg he had to make a decision to remove the leg or have chronic pain and it may not cure it. His ex Stacy made a decision to help House and after the decision was made it was too hard for them to stay together because of the choice she made to save him. House really loved Stacy but it could not work after what had happen. House will never forgive her.
House deals with his personal life and his co-workers' lives through what’s going on with his patients. House has interns who help him through the show. He has his interns lives all figured out and he lets them know what he thinks about what’s going on. They put up with him because he's their boss, but his plotting and scheming often irritates them.
His boss, Cuddy, on the other hand is different. In ways, Cuddy and House are the same. They are both bad with relationships, and they are lonely and broken. They have such a complicated relationship, but I think they truly love each other. They argue so much because they are so much alike. They have such a love/hate relationship.
On the surface, House is funny and crazy, but below the surface it deals with complicated emotions. Watch the show, and you can see for your self how cool it really is. Every episode is different, so you never know what kind of weird diagnoses House and his team of doctors will have and how House figures them out.
